It is used in wet chemical electronics products and is often classified in China as a solvent for general chemicals in ultraclean high-purity reagents (sometimes also called ultra-high-purity reagents). It is used in cleaning, photolithography, development, etching, and doping processes for electronic component microfabrication. Methanol is particularly used in cleaning.

Electronic-grade methanol has similar applications to anhydrous ethanol and isopropyl alcohol.
